How do you wash tie dye for the first time?
Try soaking your tie dye in equal parts white vinegar and cold water for 30 minutes after you initially rinse out the dye from your garment. The vinegar helps with colorfastness. After the first couple washes, wash tie dye in cold water to prevent dye from fading. Use gentle, color-safe detergents.

Can you wash tie dye shirts together for the first time?
You can wash them together and just hang it to dry. Wash them together but don’t wash anything else with them or it’ll get stained! Wash them In a sink and let all the due get out then throw both shirts in the washer.
Can you wash multiple Tulip tie dye shirts together?
We only recommend washing multiple dyed fabrics together if they are dyed with the same color scheme. If the fabric items each have different colors, they should be washed separately to avoid muddying and dulling of the colors on the fabrics as they bleed out into the wash water.
Can you let tie dye sit too long?
Let the fabric sit for 2-24 hours. The longer you can let the fabric sit, the easier it will be to wash out loose dye from the fabric. The length of time you let the fabric sit is not overly critical. If you are in a hurry, let the fabric sit for as long as your deadline will allow.
How long should I let my tie dye sit?
The first step to completing your tie – dye is to let your shirt (or dress, bag, scarf, towel, etc.) soak for AT LEAST one hour. The longer the better, I let mine sit overnight and recommend you do the same. By letting it soak, you are giving the dye time to react with and stain the cotton fibers from the inside out.
What can I use instead of dye fixative?
The only substitutes for soda ash as dye fixer are high-pH chemicals, such as trisodium phosphate or sodium hydroxide. Soda ash is the best choice, however. Note that sodium carbonate is of no use in dyeing with natural dyes, nor with all-purpose dyes.
Will Rit dye stain my washer?

It’s absolutely possible to tie – dye the same shirt twice, in fact, you can dye the same shirt as many times as you want. Once the dye has had time to set you can then rinse your shirt. Once the shirt has been rinsed and the excess dye is removed you can then begin the whole process again for a second round of tie – dye.

The last batch of tie dyes turned out pretty faded. Procion MX dyes will stay good for at least a couple of weeks at air-conditioned room temperature, 70° to 80°F, but they will go bad more quickly if left outside in hot weather. They will stay good for many weeks longer if stored in a refrigerator.
